I don’t usually do two posts in one day but whoa. I am sitting in a coffee shop in Black Mountain, North Carolina and I just watched a video that had me smiling like an idiot and I think we need to talk about it.
You’re probably familiar with the brother duo For King and Country (FKAC). Well, they’ve got a new song out and a new video and the song needs to be taking the world by storm.
Seriously y’all…this song. Do not blow past the video. Go watch it, let it get into your soul and get up and dance along.
If you’ll allow me, I want to break down the layers of unbelievable awesomeness found in this track. Let’s start with the lyrics. I mean, talk about some power lyrics! These words cut right to the marrow of feelings I’ve heard in the church and in everyone, honestly. The number of people on anti-depressants these days is out of control; interestingly, the nightly news is basically a pro-depressant. This world is going crazy, and I’ll be blogging more on that in the next few days. For now though, let’s just say what the brothers say: “Oh hear my prayer tonight, I’m singing to the sky, Give me strength to raise my voice; let me testify, Oh hear my prayer tonight, ’cause this is do or die, the time has come to make a choice”. PREACH! These lyrics are salve to a joyless world, a world where the trending topics on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc. kill joy, hope, and peace. I love it.
Next, there’s the music. I can’t even handle it. I love that these guys have blended old soul, with modern pop, and layered over it new lyrics that cut to the heart of the matter, sewn together with the words to the old familiar, “I’ve got the joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart”. I can’t handle this song. I wasn’t ready for it.
And then as the final layer — the final course of an indescribable feast for the spirit and ear…there is the video. It’s like, “Yeah we got to the heart and spirit; yes this is a song people will love and want to dance to, but let’s make a video that blows people minds!” And Candace Cameron Bure? FORGET ABOUT IT!!! And the little elderly couple watching the news made me smile down to my toes.
I, you, it’s, just…you need to literally stop what you’re doing and watch this video/listen to the song. With your kids? Don’t care. Throw a dance party and do it. Driving? Don’t care. Turn it up and let the smile on your face confuse all the drivers around you. Sitting in a coffee shop? Don’t care. Smile through it, listen to it, and walk out of the coffee shop refreshed in more ways than one.
Thank you For King & Country. I choose joy.
