I don’t know where you’re reading this, but I’m writing it in North Carolina. North Carolina has not, in previous years, had a monsoon season…but this year we have! There is extensive flooding happening in our state, especially the western part (if you would like to help, click here).
These current circumstances got me thinking about something that God laid on my heart a few weeks ago. Steven Furtick is the head pastor of Elevation church which is based out of Charlotte, NC. He is currently in a series of sermons he is calling “Savage Jesus”. Isn’t that a great point? Our Jesus is SAVAGE!!! He tore the grave open! He kicked out demons! He is SAVAGE! One of the stories that shows Jesus’ savagery is when He cast a legion of demons out a man. Continue reading
Picture it: Monday morning, May 28th, 7:44 am. I’ve just finished getting ready for my day and I am preparing to have some breakfast. While I’m making breakfast, I want some music, so I go to my Spotify account. I take a look at “Saved Albums” which is mostly new stuff I haven’t listened to yet. The CD title is the first thing to catch my eye. “Resurrection Letters, Vol. 1”. The next thing I notice is the artist name. I’ve heard good things about Andrew Peterson, so I figure, “Seems like good bacon-sandwich-making music!”
Little did I know some strongholds were about to crumble to the beat of a song.
Little did I know I was about to be transformed before my breakfast.
I did my Bible reading this morning over a cup of tea. And as God is prone to do, He drew my eye to an interesting verse on this Memorial Day.
“This day shall be for you a memorial day, and you shall keep it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations, as a statute forever, you shall keep it as a feast.” -Ex. 12:14, ESV
This command to Moses comes just after the institution of the Jewish Passover festival. But I couldn’t help noticing the miraculous timing of this verse in my life. So I thought, for this Memorial Day when I read about the memorial day of our faith, I would discuss some of the people I personally consider heroes of our faith. Some you will know, some you will not; some are soldiers, some are not; but all are members of the army of our God. Continue reading
For the sake of total honesty, I will tell you that I wrote this blog post a while back. But I have been cleaning off my computer the last few days and I found it and I thought, “Man…I gotta post that!” That’s how we ended up here. So enjoy!
I don’t usually do two posts in one day but whoa. I am sitting in a coffee shop in Black Mountain, North Carolina and I just watched a video that had me smiling like an idiot and I think we need to talk about it. Continue reading
Are you familiar with the weight of a war? I’m not speaking of a war “against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places” (Eph. 6:12, ESV). I stood under such a weight Monday night. I was minding my own business and suddenly Satan struck up a struggle. And it was a doozy! Continue reading
Last night, I heard a fabulous speaker. His name was Steven James and he talked to us about the border. Not the Mexican cuisine restaurant, but a particular passage of Scripture.
“And when they had come up to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them.” -Acts 16:7, ESV
Everyone was moved. Everyone was inspired. I went back to my hotel room, wept openly, and entered into an existential crisis. Continue reading
I sit here fumbling for words. Maybe not fumbling…maybe overwhelmed. Let me start again.
